Back to Therapy Table

The GYROTONIC® methodology was developed by Hungarian born, Juliu Horvarth, and combines movements from yoga, tai chi and swimming.  It involves working on a GYROTONIC® machine, which has a weight resistance.  This helps to hold body weight, and in turn allows the body to let go of tension, and to work in a deeper, more subtle way, helping to unblock stagnant energy pathways within the body, and to strengthen and lengthen the muscles in a free and organic way.

The GYROTONIC® machine gives a feeling of moving in water, almost like a dance.  The movements are based on circulatory motions which are incorporated throughout the body, and help to strengthen the spine and body in general, at the same time creating a more even flow of energy.  Particularly beneficial for people with, or recovering from, injuries GYROTONIC® works on many levels, making the system available for anyone and everyone.

About Georgina

I trained as a dancer at the Ballet Rambert, and then went on to dance professionally for 5 years. I trained in the pilates technique with Alan Herdman in 2000, and then went on to train in the Gyrotonic methodology in 2003, which is a combination of yoga, Tai chi, and ballet movements involving the energy flow through the body, as well as strengthening the core stability muscles.

Through my experience of an injury through dance, I continue to explore the nature of our body and mind, and how we can release blocked tension, toxins, and emotions held in the body, helping us to feel more free, calm and balanced.
