Why should I have Acupuncture?

Life and health are ever evolving processes of discovery. Getting a balance of activity and rest in your life can be difficult. This can affect your health. Acupuncture is a holistic approach to maintaining a dynamic and essential quality of health.

What is Acupuncture?

Chinese medicine style Acupuncture has been documented for more than 5000years. It is an integral part of the Chinese perception of health. Acupuncturists use very fine needles to un-block energetic pathways (not dis-similar to the blood vessel network) that run throughout the body. By activating the deqi on the pathways that travel into the muscles, joints, sense organs, organs and metabolic systems, this allows free flow of our energetic essence. This activation enhances the function capacity of our organs, vitalising our immune system, the digestive system, metabolism, hormones etc re-energising and forming a true expression of health.

What can I expect in a treatment?

A detailed case history is key to understand you and your life.  Many seemingly unrelated questions are asked to give you the most appropriate treatment for you. The session will be given in a comfortable position for you; lying, sitting or on your side.

Using very fine needles to activate the deqi, you will experience any number of sensations, usually a mild dull ache. Acupuncture creates a deeply relaxing sense of awareness. Creating a more in tune connection to you, your body and its needs.

Acupuncture, is it for me?

Acupuncture is beneficial for everybody. Activity is a true expression of life.  Freedom of expression, with fluidity of movement is a true expression of a harmonious happy being.  Acupuncture empowers people to return, a near as possible, to reflection of true health. Acupuncture is particularly beneficial for woman trying to conceive, throughout pregnancy and for an easier birth for you and your baby. Acupuncture is renowned for its ability to reduce pain, enhance mobility and to enhance rehabilitation from operations, accidents, prolonged “dis-ease” or illness.

How Can Acupuncture Help Conception, Pregnancy, Post Natal needs?

The female body is very complicated and all sorts of problems can occur through all these natural states of being a woman. We put ourselves through many more demands, stressful working environments, pollution and lifestyle factors than our grandmothers. As well as trying to conceive later in life, we try to be the perfect woman…Which these days entails being well maintained to always look your best, to be wonderful to your partner, holding down a demanding job, running a household, paying taxes, keeping in touch with all your family and friends. Its just go, go, go and keep going. Acupuncture can help you return to a relaxed, happy state of being as well as improve your fertility and enhance your pregnancy, as well as enabling a more natural and hopefully easier birth.

Scientific proof that Acupuncture works specifically for pain relief

Katie Sykes, a scientist, investigated Acupuncture in a documentary shown on BBC 2 on the 24th January 2006. A rigorous ground breaking Western Scientific research project was undertaken, involving MRI brain scanning to assess the difference between a control group (superficial needling) and group having Acupuncture (where deqi was stimulated). The results showed that Acupuncture stimulated the neural network of the brain associated with pain reduction whereas the superficial needling of the control group did not.

This is scientific proof that acupuncture really works for pain relief!

Acupuncture can therefore help people with an injury or sudden onset of pain and really alleviate chronic pain sufferers (long term pain). This is especially good for people suffering from osteo-arthritis and other conditions that will not improve. To live with less pain means more mobility, better quality of sleep, it is easier to cope and have a much better quality of life.
