Rosanna qualified as a reflexologist in the UK in 1994.
She trained to practise Chinese Reflexology in 2002 and further honed her therapeutic skills with Professor Hang of the China Reflexology Association in Beijing in 2004.
She was one of the first in the UK to be awarded a fellowship by her governing body, The Association of Reflexologists in 2009. She came to complementary medicine from science having previously read pharmacology at Bristol University specialising in the central nervous system and pain and she now practises Nerve Reflexology for pain relief
Part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Reflexology is the ancient art of healing by working specific points on the feet, hands and ears which correspond to different parts of the body. Firmer pressure and sweeping movements are used on the reflex points in Chinese Reflexology. Whereas Western Reflexology is based on relaxation, its Chinese counterpart stimulates and energises the body so is ideal for those wanting a recharge or whose immune systems need a boost. Ear Reflexology points are similar to those used in ear acupuncture. A sensitive point is identified with the reflexologist’s finger and then a seed applied so it can be worked in between treatments
Unlike Chinese or Western reflexology, Nerve reflexology works on reflexes for the nervous system on the bones of the feet and is particularly effective in treating conditions that are caused, or influenced by, the nervous system. It was developed for those patients whose pain symptoms did not respond completely to physiotherapy. It puts together the entire pain picture: peripheral nerves, brain and central nervous system, muscles and ligaments. It works deep into the nervous system to restore co-ordination within the nervous system for the relief from acute and chronic pain. Nerve reflexology is also effective in treating other minor health irritations such as IBS, headaches, neck tension and menopausal symptoms
Daoyin Tao (DYT) is a therapeutic, revitalising, rejuvenating and relaxing treatment which rebalances the body. It is the harmonious blend of softened traditional Chinese with Western massage techniques. The techniques applied to the head, neck and shoulders are a mixture of sweeping and static circular movements; some are deep, others superficial, some quick, others slow, some large and others precise.
As reflexology is holistic, it treats the whole body rather than individual symptoms, most people benefit. It is suitable for people of all ages, tiny babies to the elderly. For each person the effects of the therapy are unique. It has proved especially effective in the following areas:
- stress
- high blood pressure
- constipation and IBS
- insomnia
- pain relief
- headaches and migraines
- sinus problems
- menstrual irregularities
- depression
- poor circulation
- pregnancy (and post-natal)
- post-operative recovery
- multiple sclerosis
- asthma
With the exception of Nerve Reflexology all Rosanna’s treatments are received lying down. All will leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed and revitalised and according to one regular patient:
“I leave every session feeling happier, healthier and more relaxed.” Jon
