About Alison I am very excited to be working at The Light Centre. I was introduced to Pilates during my dance training at The Laban Centre and took Alan Herdman’s course, qualifying in 2000. I have worked for him and subsequently in three other studios as well as extensively teaching mat work and private one- to -one and group classes. I have experience with rehabilitation, pre and post natal clients, athletes and dancers and have worked with a wide range of individuals whose ages range from teens to seventies. I am lucky to have absorbed different styles, techniques and exercises everywhere I have worked. (I currently also work at a STOTT studio and although I have not pursued their training per se I have a good working knowledge of their repertoire and principles). I also use my dance training and any other influences I feel appropriate to complement the classes I teach. These may include The Alexander Technique, yoga, Gyrotonic/kenisis and general principles of biomechanics). I also continue to dance and am an aerial performer (trapeze and silks), ride when I can and am an obsessive snowboarder. Pilates has helped me with all of these activities. Clearly every client is an individual and exercises must be tailored to fit him or her, not the other way round. I take my work very seriously and want the absolute best for my clients, whether that be a challenging work -out, a step towards recovery from injury, an improvement in posture and co-ordination or just an hour of relaxation. Some comments I have heard over the years that have made me feel very good about my job: “You have no idea how wonderful it is to walk without pain,” (A client in her seventies who had started limping when walking the shortest distances) “Thank you for the only class I enjoy” (a reluctant gym bunnie) “My back stops hurting when I do your classes; when I’m on holiday it aches again,” (A sciatica sufferer) “My bum doesn’t wobble any more when I run upstairs!” (Important to some…..)
