Sylvia has a movement background in the wonderful world of competitive ballroom dancing. She competed internationally for 13 years, representing New Zealand twice at the World Amateur Ballroom Dancing Championships. Sylvia studied the Pilates Method in London and is a registered Comprehensive Member of The PILATESfoundation UK Limited since 2002. Sylvia is also a qualified SOMATIC MOVEMENT COACH, a movement education and therapy recognised by ISMETA (International Somatic Movement Education & Therapy Association). Sylvia is a registered practitioner with the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine and a Ballroom Dance teacher specialising in the modern style.
Sylvia's training enables her to work both remedially and with conditioning for the general public and performers. Clients benefit from both direct instruction and somatic coaching approaches in pilates sessions, working with body intelligence, our body as a tool for learning through awareness. Through improved strength, balance, flexibility and awareness we access our movement potential - whether domestically, socially, professionally, in sport, dance or performance.
Both Private (1:1) and small group studio sessions (1:2 and 1:3) are offered at LIGHT CENTRE BELGRAVIA. Programmes encompass remedial needs as well as conditioning. Programmes are available for pre and post operative, pre and post natal and scoliosis as well as fitness & conditioning and postural work.
