Healing from Depression through Yoga and Mindfulness Modern science and psychology are now beginning to appreciate the importance of body-mind approaches in the treatment of depression, anxiety and stress. In Healing from and Depression through Yoga Mindfulness Heather Mason assisted by Carly Taylor will explore the curative role that yoga therapy and mindfulness can have on emotional healing. This workshop will offer an opportunity for experiential learning combined, with insight into groundbreaking theory around how both yoga and mindfulness influence the brain and nervous system. Using a combination of yoga therapy, break-work, mindfulness and psychotherapeutic support, Heather and Carly will guide you through practices specifically designed to work with both the mental and physiological aspects of anxiety and depression. Appropriate for all levels: this includes both students and clinicians What to Expect 1) A wonderful, gentle supportive day by two of the UKs leading teachers in Yoga and Mental Health 2) Skills you can take home and practise to cultivate well-being 3) Insight into how to work with depression and anxiety over the long term 4) A CD to aid you in home practise 5) An opportunity to ask personal questions and how yoga and mindfulness can influence them Time: 10.30am-12.30pm Date:19th February 2010 About Heather Mason Heather Mason offers Yoga Therapy for the mind and the body based on her extensive training in psychotherapy, yoga therapy, and mindfulness-based practice. Having suffered from both depression and anxiety Heather offers an approach that is both experientially and scientifically based. This prompted her to found a company called Yoga for the Mind where she integrates the benefits of yoga postures, breath practices, mindfulness techniques, and psychotherapeutic principles to help people alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression. Through this combined approach Heather is able to work with both the mind and body meeting both the psychological and physiological aspects of mental-health through a process of mutual cure. Heather holds an MA in Buddhist Studies from SOAS University London, and completing a three year MA in Clinical Buddhist-Based Psychotherapy.
