Ashtanga Vinyasa and Therapeutic Yoga Teacher

Biography

I have been practicing yoga since I was introduced to it more than 15 years ago in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Since then my journey has taken me through many styles of yoga, in many different countries, but it wasn’t until I discovered Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga 6 years ago, that yoga became my life’s path, and I have practised almost daily since.

I completed an Ashtanga specific intensive teacher training in Goa, India, and have since completed teacher training with David Swenson. I am certified with The Yoga Alliance at 200RYT and am currently completing an advanced yoga therapy, meditation and teacher training with The Art Of Contemporary Yoga RYT500 here in London, studying with Joanne Avison and Alex Waldenmaier.

Ashtanga Vinyasa Assisted Practice (Breakfast Club)

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: drop in any time between 7-9 am (doors open 6.30 am)

Ashtanga Vinyasa is a physically dynamic, invigorating and fluid form of asana practise, which follows a specific sequence of postures, linked by deep rhythmic breathing (ujyiah breath).  The practice can increase stamina, strength, and vitality and also promotes detoxification of the organs.

The sequence itself (The Primary Series) sequentially challenges tension and restrictions in the muscles and joints through a comprehensive series of sun salutations, standing postures, forward bends, twists, backbends and finally concluding with inversions (upside down postures!) and well deserved relaxation (the corpse pose).

Traditionally Ashtanga Vinyasa is taught as assisted or self-practice; the student progresses at their own pace with guidance and adjustments from the teacher. Students of the Breakfast Club will receive one-to-one personal instruction and feedback from Katie, specifically tailored to the needs of their body. When their body is ready, they are taken further with their practice and given new postures from the sequence. This way of practicing allows students to memorize their own sequence, take responsibility for their own practice, and work at a pace which is suitable for them on any given day.

If you prefer something gentler on the body, then Katie also teaches a soft form of Therapeutic Yoga

Therapeutic Yoga

The human body was designed on the savannahs of Africa to be an outdoors, endurance machine. It was not designed for sitting behind desks 8 hours a day!

In the therapeutic class (designed by the Center’s leading Osteopath and principal, Mark Thompson) you will learn how to undo postural stresses in your body caused through modern sedentary life. You will learn a routine that starts with a softening process for your middle and upper back and then takes you through a whole body flexibility programme. The results have been proven to make a significant difference to recurrent aches and pains, even when other classes and therapies have not worked.

Friday 12.30pm –1.15pm

Vinyasa Flow

Based on the same vinyasa principles (synchronization of breath and movement) as Ashtanga, a vinyasa flow class weaves together a creative sequence of postures  which gradually warms the body, stretching muscles and opening joints.

Friday 7.30-8.30am

Thursday 1.15pm-2.15pm
