Shimmy experienced her first yoga class with Norman Blair in 2003 and hasn’t looked back. Having experienced many schools and approaches to yoga, Astanga became the discipline that resonated with her the most.
She still continues to explore variants and other styles, but remains attracted to the flowing grace of Astanga.
In 2008, she completed the BWY Foundation course at Yoga Junction (London) with Tara Fraser, followed by a Yoga Alliance RTY500 Astanga Vinyasa Teacher Training at Brahmani Yoga in Goa, India, in 2009. She has also completed her RYT100 Pre & Postnatal Teacher Training and a RYT Restorative course with Jodi Boone at Brahmani Yoga, Goa
Her approach to teaching is somewhat similar to her approach in life:
being light but grounded, dedicated, mindful, aware, and understanding personal limitations that are inherent to each and every individual. With a smile and love for teaching, seeking to instill a sense of lightness and ease to students, whilst assisting in that discovery of oneself, inevitably connecting mind and body in subtle ways.
Taking comfort in knowing that much may be achieved with a bit of imagination, perseverance, fun and that most things are subject to change.
